The European Commissar has stated that it intends to spend € 17 billion in infrastructure modernization to improve military mobility.

Direct Tsikikostas Language: “We have old bridges that need to be renewed. There are narrow bridges that should be expanded. And there are bridges that need to be built from scratch.”

He explained that it would not be possible to protect the territory if the European armies could not move freely.

“The reality is that it takes weeks and sometimes months to move military equipment and troops from the western part of Europe to the eastern part of Europe,” he said.

The European Commissioner also noted that most of the available infrastructure was not designed to transport the Army territory of the EU. For example, trucks on European roads usually weigh up to 40 tons, while the tank – up to 70 tons.

According to him, the EU is currently developing a strategy that will move the troops “within a few hours, a maximum of several days” in the event of an attack. For this purpose it is planned to update 500 infrastructure facilities along four military corridors.

What objects will be modernized, for safety reasons do not disclose.

Tsitsykostas stressed that Brussels also wants to reduce the bureaucracy so that “tanks do not get stuck in papers” during the crossing of borders.

The publication notes that this strategy, which the European Commissioner will present later than this year, is considered as part of a wider wave of military training against the backdrop of warnings about the possible large -scale confrontation with Moscow and the expected reduction of US military presence in Europe.

According to Tsitsykostas, the military mobility plan will supplement the NATO agreement on raising the target defense expenses up to 5% of GDP, of which 1.5% should be aimed at security and defense infrastructure.

“We can no longer afford to be non -prepared or dependent,” the European Commissar summed up.
