Language Ombudsmenko requires legislative to ban Russian songs at public events

Olena Ivanovskaya, the State Language Commissioner, called for legislatively regulating the issues of public performance of Russian -speaking songs in Ukraine. Olena Ivanovskaya, the State Language Commissioner, called for legislatively regulating the issues of public performance of Russian -speaking songs in Ukraine.

In her opinion, such speeches in the conditions of war cause reasonable indignation of society.

According to the current Law “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as State”, cultural measures should be carried out in the state language. However, the norm does not prohibit the use of other languages in works of art, unless it is contrary to other legislation.

It is worth emphasizing: in addition to public support, such initiatives require national regulatory support, legal certainty: for both local self -government bodies, and for executors, organizers of measures, economic entities

Ombudsmenko emphasized

We will remind, the Cabinet appointed a folklorist of Elena Ivanovsk with a linguistic Ombudsman.

The ombudsman also explained why Kyiv is the leading the number of complaints about Russian.
