The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has not yet decided on the participation of Russian and Belarussian athletes at the 2026 Winter Games.
Representatives of these countries are expected to apply the same selection as Oi-2024 in Paris: Athletes have Sports on sports, prove that they do not actively support the war in Ukraine and do not have to do with the military forces of their countries.
A group of experts, which was created in March 2024, carefully checked the profiles of athletes, using different sources, including official lists of athletes related to military or security clubs in Russia and Belarus.
Only those who were approved as “neutral individual athletes” were allowed in the competition. Such a strict approach may well be repeated in 2026.
“We will not hurry to September and December meetings (IOC – note), but we will probably move in the same direction as in Paris,” said President Mok Kirsti Coventry L’Equipe.
Recall a few months ago Coventry opposed the ban on Russia and Belarus, as well as other countries, to speak at the Olympic Games through the war.
It should be noted that Zimbabviyka Coventry is the first in the history of a female president of the International Olympic Committee, as well as the first representative of Africa headed by the organization.
