Details: The organization emphasized that this bill gives the Prosecutor General with powers:
Advertising:
- to take cases in NABU and entrust the investigation to other bodies;
- to be the actual head of the SAP and to delegate the powers of the SAP prosecutor to other prosecutors;
- to provide NABU detectives mandatory written instructions;
- Self -close cases on suspicion of top officials.
It is also noted that this bill will significantly limit the procedural autonomy of the SAP.
Transparency International Ukraine states that she has received confirmation from a number of sources that the voting is planned on July 22. This shows that the deputies also “seriously violate Article 116 of the Verkhovna Rules”, which concerns the deadline for submission of proposals and amendments to the bill prepared for the second reading.
“This poses a direct threat to NABU’s independence – one of the key anti -corruption bodies created with the support of international partners as an institution protected from political influence. We urge MPs not to support such legislative changes and to cancel the results of reforms that we have all consistently achieved since 2014,” the organization said.
