The European Parliament Group “Update Europe”, which belongs to the Kotsev Party, also called for its release, calling the arrest “political repression” and condemning a “direct attack on European values”.
The arrest of Kotsev has become one of many in recent weeks, which have stirred the “continuing change” party, against which the members of which have been initiated by criminal cases on suspicion of corruption.
Against this background, the former Prime Minister of Bulgaria Cyril Petkov announced his resignation from the position of co-chair of the party.
