The victims of the attacks were, in particular: TSMC, MediaTek, United Microelectronics Corp, Nanya Technology and Realtek Semiconductor.
Researchers emphasize that cyber -attacks occur against the background of increased US export control to China’s supply to the advanced chips of US development – above all, those used in artificial intelligence systems.
“We are watching a spike in new campaigns aimed at organizations that have not been targeted before,” said ProofPoint threats researcher Mark Kelly.
The report states that one of the groups conducted phishing attacks using compromised Taiwan universities accounts to issue themselves for job seekers and send malicious software through contaminated PDF files or staggering archives.
Another group was an investment company interested in cooperation, and through correspondence with analysts tried to infect their devices.
Prehistory:
- At the end of December 2024, the media reported that the Chinese Hackers funded by the Government received access to foreign asset control documents and financial research management of the Ministry of Finance.
