At the age of 95, the Patriarch of the Transcarpathian School of Painting, the Shevchenko Prize winner and the academician of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine-Vladimir Nikita, did not become life.

His death was a significant loss for Ukrainian culture, because it was thanks to his canvases that the world learned about the identity and color of Transcarpathia.
Vladimir Nikita was born in 1931 in the village of Rakoshino in Mukachevo. He was awarded numerous awards, including the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise IV and V degree. His works are presented in the leading museums of Ukraine and the world, and in his native Transcarpathia the artist created his own private museum.
The author of the characteristic style, Nikita glorified the genres of landscape and portrait, preserving them live energy and philosophical depth.

Also at the age of 86, a prominent Ukrainian poet, writer, dissident and long-time political prisoner of the Soviet regime, Igor Kalinets, died.
