The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine condemned the reporting of the American edition of The New York Times from the Kursk region. In preparation of material, the author Nanny Gaitman helped the fighters of the Russian “Akhmatat”. The spokesman of the department George Tykhy called his idea “the stupid solution.”

– The one who in NYT considers the reasonable to write a report with Russian war criminals, made the most stupid decision. This is not a balance and not the “other side of history.” It’s just a resolution of Russian propaganda mislead the audience. It is sad to see Duranti’s manipulations returned to NYT, ”he wrote in X, remembering the New York Times journalist Voltaire Durant, who interviewed Stalin, made a series of reports from the USSR and denied the Holodomor.

A report with the name “Landscape of Death: What remained where Ukraine invaded Russia” appeared on NYT on July 12. It stated that his author spent six days in the frontline areas of Kurschyna, where her “occasionally” was accompanied by Akhmata militants.

Nanna Gaitman is a 31-year-old German photographer and journalist. In March, she received the World Press Photo 2025 award for the Field Hospital work, which depicts the wounded mobilized on the occupied part of Donetsk region. Gaitmann is a member of Magnum Photos and a friderer photographer The New York Times. In 2024, she became the finalist of the Pulitzer Prize for Photo Reporting from Russia.

WHOEVER AT @NYTIMES TUOUGHT IT WAS SMART TO REPORT ALONGSIDE Russian War Criminals Made the Dumbest Decision. This isn’t Balance or “The Other Side of the Story.” This is Simply Letting Russian Propaganda Mislead the Audience. Sad to see duranty-level manipulation return to nyt. https://t.co/yliu0j2hh1
