In Kiev, during the Russian shelling, doctors conducted organ transplantation from a dead four -year -old girl. So it was possible to save the lives of three other children. This is the first such transplant in the history of the hospital.

This was reported at the National Children’s Specialized Hospital “Ohmatdit”.

Last week, a 4-year-old girl from Zhytomyr region was sent to the medical institution. On the night of July 10, the Conselium was forced to state the death of the patient’s brain.

This was the first time in the hospital when doctors, together with psychologists, were able to get their parents’ consent to posthumous donation. The hospital says that this decision of the parents saved three lives at once.

After signing the consent, the work of the specialists of the hospital and the Ukrainian Center for Transplant Coordination began. It was necessary to provide logistics, the selection of recipients and to organize everything in conditions of air anxiety and rocket firing.

The only state information system of transplantation (Edist) has identified the recipients, two of whom were already in Okhmatdita:

  • A 16-year-old girl with Wilson’s disease-Konovalova had the first status of emergency. She was in intensive care, and it was her only chance to survive. She was transplanted liver.

  • A 14-year-old boy lived on dialysis for more than seven months in Ohmatdita. He was transplanted by the kidneys.

  • This night, at the Institute of Heart of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine transplanted the heart of a 12-year-old girl with the first status of emergency.

The operations lasted more than 13 hours. Despite the night explosions, wires of drones and rockets, doctors did not stop. After all, it was important every minute: the less time the organs are out of the body, the more likely it is for success.
