“We will spend hundreds of millions of euros on anti -tank mines as well as on anti -personnel mines. It will be a significant amount,” said Lithuanian Deputy Defense Minister Carolis Alex.

According to him, tens of thousands of anti -personnel mines will be ordered, or even more.

“One of the sources of supply will be our national industry. Our industry can produce them,” Alex assured.

As soon as the production is set up, Lithuania will be able to supply mines to other countries, including Ukraine, Vinzas Yurutis, Head of the Lithuanian Defense Industry Association.

The Chairman of the Finland Parliament Defense Committee, Hikki Outto, in turn, said that his country should have its own production of anti -personnel mines.

“It is a very effective and economically profitable weapons system,” he said.

According to him, Finland can supply anti -personnel mines to Ukraine.

“Ukraine support is not only our right and duty, but also an important issue for the safety of Finland itself,” Outto said.

According to him, more than a million anti -personnel mines had an accession to the Ottawa Treaty in 2011.

Finnish defense companies Nammo Lapua, Insta and Raikka have informed the Parliamentary Defense Committee that they were interested in the production of MIN. Another company, Forcit Explosives, said she was ready to discuss opportunities with the military.

Asked if Latvia will start the production of anti -personnel mines, the Ministry of Defense of the country did not give a clear answer, but noted that the Latvian defense industry “has the necessary capacity, and the metalworking industry is highly developed.”

And Estonia’s Defense Minister Hanno, Makur, stated that his country did not have the nearest plans for the purchase of anti -personnel mines.

The Ottawa Convention in 1997 was intense pressure due to Russia’s war against Ukraine, especially in the neighboring countries of Russia, which are warned by the expansion of aggression by Moscow.

Recall:

  • In March Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, they announced their intention to withdraw from the International Convention because of the threat to NATO member states bordering Russia and Belarus.
  • And the recent decision of Finland to leave the treaty has left Norway to a single European country bordering on Russia that does not plan to imitate its allies. So Norway criticized this decision.
