Svettek: “To slide on the grass – you need to rely on intuition”

The Polish tennis player Iga Swontek does not cause a lot of excitement at the British grass Major, as almost a 14-month series without titles significantly reduced expectations from the ex-first racket of the world.

This may be what helped her to approach Wimbledon in 2025, reach the quarterfinals and demonstrate that her grass game is improving every day. With confidence, calm and without tension, Svontek remains three steps from the title in London. Here’s what she said after a confident victory over Clara Tauson.

Twelve -quarterfinals in the tournaments of the Great Helme

“As I usually say, every match has its own statistics, I don’t even know what to answer. I am glad to have my stability and because I was able to achieve it so early – it is definitely a dream that has become a reality. I never thought that I could achieve the following results: go to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon, not to mention twelve -quarterfinals on helmets. I’m proud of myself is a wonderful start. ”

It’s not in motion

“Every coating is different, the only thing that cannot be done on the grass is to slide. Everything is different on Hardy, though I never thought that I was bad on Hardy. I just slide better than a lot of players – it has always been my advantage on the ground. In any case, I am still a strong tennis player on Hardy. I never lost because of poor motion on the cement – I lost for other reasons, but not exactly because of mobility. I think I’m moving well on all coatings. On the grass just need to stop before the blow, and it seems to me that every year I get it better. It is a difficult sport, especially when the coating is constantly changing, but this is what tennis makes it so interesting. ”

Communication with the city

“London has always been a good place for me, though there is never time to walk around the city. This year, I feel that I really develop as a playful – I do my work regardless of the results. I think I’m doing well, I learn to play on the grass and for the first time I feel really comfortable. Finally there is a logic in the process. Every year it gets a little easier, and I finally reached the point where I can enjoy a little outside the court. We are here to play tennis, but if you do not feel good on the court, then it is likely that you will not be abroad. ”

I learn to slide

“There are times when it is simply impossible – if you are late to the ball, you do not have time to take small steps, so I probably tried – but unsuccessful. To slide, I need to rely on intuition, but in my case I never understood exactly when and how to do it. Then I started watching other players – especially Carlos, Yannik and Novak, always watched how they were doing. As a result, it is possible, but it requires confidence. I have never played as many matches on the grass before this year – it may have just lacked confidence before. ”

Samsonova is the next rival

“I know that she knows how to play – we had intense matches in the past, especially remembered the match in Stuttgart, it was very intense. She loves fast coatings, so it is not a surprise for me that she plays well here. She has extensive experience, she won the top play-it will be a serious challenge. We are in the quarter -finals, which means that she holds a wonderful tournament and knows how to play here. I will prepare as any other match and hope to be ready. ”
