– My responsibility area covers Ukraine and three Baltic countries. In the workflow, all these markets are equally important. At the same time, most of my time occupies the Ukrainian direction, because the war creates unique challenges that need increased attention and involvement.
The office works in hybrid format: part of the team – released, part – remained. We did not close even in the most difficult periods. We make a lot of unique for Ukraine, including support for government and business.
Moreover, our employees not only work in the Ukrainian market, their area of responsibility is often wider: other countries, clients, governments. And even with constant shelling, these people remain extremely effective.
– Unambiguously. And not only in the number of employees. Difficult conditions stimulate new approaches to work, thinking, solving even basic problems. Everything we create now becomes a new normalness for the world. Technological progress and implementation of AI in war conditions can produce unexpectedly positive results in peacetime.
– These were different types of critical data: state, infrastructure, service. Even before the full -scale invasion, we recorded anomalous increase in attacks on Ukrainian networks. When they realized that the situation was exacerbated, they immediately shared the observations with the government and started acting.
Therefore, by February 24, 2022, critically important data were transferred to a public cloud. This was the key to the fact that on the day of the invasion, when the first attack was in cyberspace, the digital systems of the country stood. Today they are stored in the NATO Date Centers, and this is the safest form of protection.
– It should be understood that data owners decide what to store in the cloud and what is locally. However, as far as I know, most do not plan to return to local servers. In addition, all new innovations, including AI technologies, work through the cloud.
– Yes, this is a really relevant issue not only for Ukraine. The same is concerned about the governments of the Baltic countries. Therefore, I would like to emphasize that digital independence is not about where data is physically stored, but about how they are controlled, protected and used.

We provide customers with a choice. But the trend we see: if you want safety, innovation and scalability, it is a public cloud.
– This is a really important issue that sounds in many countries. Microsoft has headquarters in the United States, but our cloud services in Europe are provided through local legal structures that are subject to European legislation.
In the future, Microsoft European Centers will be controlled by a separate board of directors, which will consist solely of EU citizens. We also guarantee that all operations and access to Microsoft cloud services in Europe are controlled exclusively by the staff living in Europe. This will comply with European law and strengthen Europe’s digital sovereignty.
– We collect the best practices from all over the world and spread them. Ukraine is critically important in this sense. In particular, in cybersecurity.
Every day Microsoft blocks about 4,000 attacks per second. We see attempts from invading all over the world, but many of them are on Ukrainian networks. This allows us not only to protect Ukraine, but also to use this experience to update products, to strengthen security systems for customers around the world.
– In short, no, there is no significant relief. Ukraine is still in the top by the number of cyberattacks. Therefore, we gradually change the paradigm of thinking. Today, the main question is not “whether the attack”, but “when it will be and how quickly we will recover.”
The attackers do not always have a specific target. This is a constant background noise of attacks. It doesn’t matter whether your company is big or small – all in the risk zone. Everyone is endangered because the attackers are constantly trying to take advantage of vulnerabilities. Therefore, the question is not whether the situation has improved or deteriorated. The question – are we ready? Do we have backups? Are systems updated? Will we be able to restore work per hour and not in a week?
– We do not have a division into a “cyber defense team for Ukraine”, “for Lithuania” or someone else. Microsoft has a global team – about 34,000 specialists. They work with incidents around the world, and, if necessary, join cases in Ukraine, Latvia, or even the United States.
At the same time, there are specialists in Ukraine who work not only with Ukrainian cases, but also support clients in other regions. This is a very interconnected system.
– Yes, we were involved. Alexander Komarov (President of Kyivstar ” – Ed.) Was also publicly talked about it. We did our part of the work: they conducted a technical analysis, passed the Kyivstar team with all the necessary data. Next, it is their competence, comment or not.
In fact, there are many such cases: state structures, private companies, government agencies. But no one will ever know about most.
– This is a subjective definition. Was it complicated? Yes. But not always a “complex” attack is a “elegant”. Most successful attacks in the world happen through banal things: unspecified updates, a weak password, the use of pirate software. Close At 90% of the incidents occur due to non -compliance with digital hygiene. So, not the question of whether the attack is unique, but the basic rules have been followed. It is worth noting that today the basic hygienic principles of cybersecurity are able to protect from 98% of known attacks.
– The popularity of Copilot in Ukraine is steadily increasing. At the same time, it is important to understand that it is no longer a particular product, but an entire ecosystem. Microsoft offers several varieties of Copilot: for Microsoft 365, for cybersecurity, as well as a Copilot Cat – a separate tool available to all Windows users for free. Depending on the purpose, these products help in everyday work, increase safety or automate typical tasks.
The Copilot Chat can be installed on your computer, tablet, smartphone for free. Therefore, it is difficult to measure popularity because both private and business users are. According to Work Trend Index, about 75% of employees who work with information every day already use certain tools of generative AI, even if the company has not officially implemented them.
This creates a new business challenge: to control what tools are used by workers, how they work with data and what risks it carries. Copilot is a tool with proven efficiency: protected, works only with your data, does not transmit them out, does not use it for your own training and adapts to your context.
-For example, Yasno, which is responsible for electricity supply, introduced Copilot into the contact center. According to the management, this allowed to reduce the average processing time of one request from 4.5 to 3.5 minutes – that is, for a whole minute, or by about 25%. For such a large -scale organization, this is very significant.
– Certainly. One of the most famous examples is Uadamage’s project, where drones collect damage and then artificial intelligence analyzes them in the cloud. This allows you to quickly evaluate the extent of destruction. We show this case in many countries, because it can work with floods, earthquakes, and other disasters.
Another example that we implemented in conjunction with the Minister and United24 is the format of virtual reconstruction. For example, in Irpen, a user can “stroll” a digital model of the future house of culture and do it to restore it. This experience – emotional and technological – has great potential.
– I would not think about restrictions now, although we understand that the Ministry of Migrams sees the need for more technologically friendly regulation and actively works in this direction. On the contrary, we live during opportunities, because we are forced to rethink old approaches and adapt technologies to real needs. If we work here, it works, it immediately is of interest in the world. This applies to safety, efficiency, and flexibility.
– The project has already been presented publicly. Several Microsoft teams, including R&D, and even Xbox designers, worked on it. The first stage – the creation of interactive visualization for the collection of Donates for the reconstruction of Irpen – has already been implemented.
This is just the beginning. Further use of the project will depend on the requests and readiness of the ecosystem. But now we see how technology can be used for the benefit of society.
– Honestly, business no longer needs separate motivation. The reality itself is the best incentive. Companies are looking for solutions that will help them work more efficiently in constant challenges.

What can we do as Microsoft? Create technologies that help to change the world for the better. We are ready to share these decisions, explain how tools work, help introduce them into business processes, and look for new approaches together. One examples are our project with the Metavssvit Ministry. This is just an example of how technology can be directed to a practical good. As a result, we strive to help the whole countries to reveal their potential and achieve more.
