According to several sources, the decision to stop the supply of weapons was a surprise for the State Department, Congress members, officials in Kiev and European allies.
Congressman Democrat Adam Smith, who is a member of the Committee of the House of Representatives on the Armed Forces, did not agree that supplying Ukraine would jeopardize US stocks.
“From the point of view of stocks, we are not in a worse position than in three and a half years of the conflict in Ukraine,” Smith said in a comment to the TV channel.
Smith said his staff “saw numbers” and, without going into details, noted that there were no signs of shortage that would justify the cessation of assistance to Ukraine.
The sources of the TV channel also say that the suspension of supplies of military assistance to Ukraine was a one -sided step of the Minister of Defense of Pete Hegset.
According to the interlocutors, Hegset has stopped the supply of assistance to Ukraine for the third time. In the two previous cases, in February and May, his decisions were canceled in a few days.
