He leads a daily lifestyle.
The species is widespread in the steppe areas of Europe and Asia / UNIAN Collage / Photo by Denis Vyshnevsky, UNIANIn Ukraine, you can find a bright and toxic butterfly, called the sheet false. He has a bright pattern on the wings: a deep black background with a bluish glitter, which stands out rounded and oval white spots.
According to the Chernobyl radiation-ecological biosphere, such a spectacular appearance is not only aesthetically attractive, but also plays a protective role: warning color (apostasy) gives a signal to predators about its possible toxicity and unpleasant taste.
The wingspan of the sheet is small – only 2-2.3 centimeters. Adult butterflies feed on nectar, using a long proboscis. The caterpillars that appear in early August are less demanding in nutrition: they eat a variety of steppe herbs.
Their body is tightly covered with hairs that serve to protect against predators, but can cause slight allergic reactions in humans – itching or irritation of the skin when touched. The best time to monitor the variety is the beginning and middle of summer. During the season it gives only one generation.
Other residents of the Chernobyl ReserveEarlier, the experts of the reserve showed photos of the bronze – a beetle that can “change” its color in the sun. They also told interesting facts about these beetles.
Also in the Chernobyl zone live horns, better known in the people as beetles. They are representatives of the largest hard -crown Ukrainian fauna.
However, not only beetles, but also large animals and rare birds can be found there. For example, a nests with black stork chicks have recently been found in the reserve.
