The Cabinet released Taras Kremin from the post of language ombudsman

The Cabinet of Ministers made a decision to dismiss Taras Kremin from the post of the Ombudsman for the protection of the state language – his five -year cadence ends on July 8. This was reported by a government representative in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk. The Cabinet of Ministers made a decision to dismiss Taras Kremin from the post of the Ombudsman for the protection of the state language – his five -year cadence ends on July 8.

This was reported by a government representative in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk.

Kremin himself stated that he was “independent and inconvenient” during his work, as he openly pointed out problems in state language policy and submitted “uncomfortable proposals”, in particular on advertising laws and multiple citizenship.

He also proposed to take exams on the history of Ukraine and the foundations of the Constitution for applicants for Ukrainian citizenship. Before dismissal, Kremin published the words of support from Ukrainian figures on social networks and published an open appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers to defend the institution of the Language Ombudsman.

We will remind, in the first half of 2025 the language commissioner received 1431 appeals from different regions of Ukraine. Mostly it is Kiev, followed by Odesa region, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk.

We also reported that the State Language Commissioner Taras Kremin noted 1 million 275 thousand 142 UAH of income in the electronic declaration on property and income for 2024.
