The second racket of the world Coco Goff The defeat of the Ukrainians Diana Yastremskaya in the first round of Wimbledon-2025:

– Tell us what you feel right now.

– Of course, very upset. Diana started very confidently, and honestly, I could not find my rhythm at the court.

– Coco, how do you think, how much of this is due to the fact that the grass is not very suitable for you, and how much – with the fact that very little time has passed after Paris and there were many loads?

– Probably, both. I was a little morally overloaded after everything that happened. It was not enough time and celebrate the victory and prepare for Wimbledon. This is a new experience for me – to come here after great success and play immediately. I understand a lot – what to do and what to avoid in the future.

But, of course, Diana played great. When I saw the net, I immediately realized that the match would be difficult. We played on the ground, where it was a little easier for me, and everything was even more difficult here, although the match was delayed on three networks. The chances were, but such realities.

– You said that you would change something. What exactly?

– Well, I would look at the decision to play in Berlin before Wimbledon after Rolan Garros. I trained only two days, and honestly, I would not hurt more matches on the grass. But I usually do not like to play in tournaments a week before big competitions – this is a difficult choice.
The next time, if this situation is repeated, I will do otherwise – I will prepare more. But even today, it was not just about it. Diana played perfectly, I was not terrible, she just took her moments. It’s all together – a combination of factors. And, of course, playing with such a powerful rival in the first round is always difficult.

– You had to play on the central court, the third match of the day, but you were transferred to the first court. When did you find out about it and did it affect your preparation?

– In fact, it was not easy to carry the court, but a shift in time. I learned about 18:35 that the game will start no earlier than 7:30 pm. At that moment, I had not yet had time to eat because I was waiting that I would play later, perhaps after Novak.

But honestly, I don’t think it has affected my game. I have already encountered such fast permutations, so I adapt.

– You said that the match is difficult because of a rival and covering. Is there anything specific that can be corrected in your game to be stronger on the grass? Or such matches with powerful rivals – always a challenge?

– Of course, I need to improve the feed. When I go well, it’s a serious weapon. It didn’t work out today. It is still important to respond to her aggression. For me, it means changing the style of the game, which is always difficult. On the soil I play one style all season, and on the grass I have to rebuild quickly.

And it is at the moment when I find the right rhythm that matches already start – difficult. But I believe that I can adapt and succeed here. I am not going to write off the grass from the account, especially at the beginning of my career. But you can not do without change.
