HEreaz Participation in Conventorsher About the prohibition of anti -personnel mines (Ottawa Convention) Ukraine was not inEqual situationbecause Russia has not signed it.

As reports Foreign Ministry, In 2005, Ukraine ratified this Convention and has since honestly enforced its provisions. Meanwhile Russian FederationWithout being a State Party State of the Ottawa Convention, she has resolved armed aggression against Ukraine and has been widely used by anti-personnel mines since 2014 as a method of war.

From 2022 when rThe axis began a full -scale invasion of the territory of our country, the mass use of such means created an asymmetrical advantage for the aggressor. We emphasize that at the time of signing and ratification by our state, such circumstances were absent and could not be foreseen.

Thus, Ukraine is in an unequal and unfair situation that restricts its right to self -defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. “

The Foreign Ministry reminded that aggression Russian Federation Ukraine forced Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland and Finland to revise its position and make a common political decision on leaving the Ottawa Convention.

Therefore, given the unconditional priority of our country’s defense against rigid Russian aggression, our land from occupation, and people from horrific Russian atrocities, Ukraine has made a difficult but necessary political decision to stop the fulfillment of irrelevant obligations under the Ottawa Convention. I am convinced that this step is a necessary and appropriate level of threats, because it is about the survival and preservation of Ukraine as a sovereign, independent and free state”, – said in the department.

We will remind, the President of Ukraine signed a decree on the exit of the state from the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits the use of anti -personnel mines.

After the commencement of full -scale aggression of Russia against Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia came from the Convention.

Later, a similar decision was made by Finland, which has a common border with Russia – President Alexander Stubb declared dedication to the responsible use of MINs to protect national security.
