Ledger stops supporting Nano S wallet because of memory restriction. This was reported by the technical director of the company Charles Guillaume.

Ledger officially withdrew Nano S from production in 2022, but continued to be limited to support the firmware. Now this support is stopped, however, users can still use the device for basic operations – sending, receiving and sharing.

“If your Ledger Nano S turns on and you have a background of a secret phrase of 24 words, your assets remain protected and accessible,” Guillase stressed.

According to him, due to limited memory-320 KB-a 9-year-old device cannot fully work with modern applications and safety updates. This is barely enough for Ledgeros and the base applications for Bitcoin, Ethereum and Exchange.

Because of this, a number of functions are not available for Nano S: parallel to several applications, Ledger Sync, expanded transactions confirmation and exchange directly from the device through uniswap protocols. Guillaume emphasized that these elements are important for safety and convenience in modern crypto space.

Ledger advises users to switch to new devices – for example, Nano S Plus, presented in April 2022. The private keys remain portable: the seat can be restored on any LEDGER compatible device or BIP-39 support.
