The solemn ceremony took place on June 25, where Plohiya was celebrated among the prominent figures of the present. To date, a 67-year-old scientist heads the Ukrainian Scientific Institute in Harvard, and his research and books have gained international recognition.
In 2023, Sergei Plohiy published the book The Russo-Ukraine War: The Return of History, which quickly became one of the most important works about the modern war. The publication was published in the US and Ukraine and was on the list of the best books of the year according to The Telegraph.
The scientist is known for a deep analysis of the historical processes that influence the present and his works are actively discussed in world intellectual circles.
During the Oxford ceremony, laureates, accompanied by university representatives, passed the Exeter College to the Bodlyan Library.
They then signed a book of honorary degrees at the School of Theology, after which they went to the Sheldonian Theater, where the traditional Enkaenia ceremony was held – one of the oldest university traditions, which has been going on since 1670.
In addition to Sergei Plohiy, seven prominent personalities were honored with the title, including American historian and writer Timothy Snyder, known for his research in Eastern Europe’s history and Ukraine’s support.
Lord Melvin Bragg, Mary, Kolm Tibin, Mo Farra, Robert Langer and Erin Neer were also noted.
