“We are firmly on the side of Ukraine. And the fact that the support is kept at a high level confirms the budget project with 8.3 billion euros of help,” KlingBayl stressed.
According to the minister, Russia continues to intensify hybrid threats – from drones and cyberattacks to espionage and sabotage. In response to these challenges, Germany should invest in the security and modernization of its own defense potential.
“Our task is to make people in Germany continue to live safe. Therefore, we invest in defense to make up for years of insufficient funding. We are devoted to a strong NATO,” said the head of the Ministry of Finance.
The project provides for an increase in the defense budget to € 624 billion. This will allow to bring the costs of defense up to 2.4% of GDP in 2025, and by 2029-up to 3.5%.
Also, the government plans to create an additional 10,000 positions in the Bundeswehr and increase the efficiency of defense spending.
The budget’s project should still be considered by the Bundestag.
