Details: NYT suggests the words of Lukashenko’s spokesman Natalia Aismont that the negotiations that began on the evening of Friday lasted 6.5 hours and covered US and European sanctions against Belarus, “conflicts” in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as Belarus’s relations with Russia and China.

The publication writes that Kelloga in Minsk was accompanied by Christopher Smith, a deputy assistant to the US Secretary of State, who in February visited Belarus to reach a large agreement under which Lukashenko should release political prisoners in exchange for a weakening of sanctions.
NYT notes that the release of 14 prisoners on Saturday has accelerated a slow process in which detained, including three Americans, has been released in small groups in recent months.
The article states that during a meeting with Lukashenko in 2020, the then State Secretary of Mike Pompeo set a goal to weaken the close partnership of Lukashenko with the ruler of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. However, these efforts then failed after the statement of the self -proclaimed President of Belarus about the “Victory” in the elections despite the report of mass falsifications and protests.
“Kellog’s goals look less ambitious, they are concentrated not so much on the separation of Belarus from Moscow as to providing Lukashenko’s assistance in a possible peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine,” the newspaper writes.
NYT also cites the words of Kellog and Lukashenko at the beginning of the negotiations.
“We live in a very dangerous time when the crises we face can be sharply exacerbated, to grow unless we are wise and fair,” Kellog said.
Lukashenko, in his turn, assured the specialist Trump that “escalation will not only be in Belarus, but also around us.”
The article also states that Lukashenko made an effort before Kellog’s visit to assure Moscow that he was still on the side of Russia. On Friday, he was visited by the chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation and Putin’s ancient ally, Alexander Bastrykin.
“I want you to realize that we are with you in this difficult time,” Lukashenko Bustkin said.
That preceded: Saturday, self -proclaimed President of Belarus Oleksandr Lukashenko met in Minsk with a special US President Kollog’s special envoy.
On the same day, Lukashenko regime was released by 14 political prisoners, including Sergei Tikhanovsky.
