“NATO is no longer eligible for existence. Times have changed,” he suddenly said at Padua University.

According to the minister, the world order has shifted, and neither the US nor the European Union is no longer its center. In this context, he urged NATO to adapt to a new geopolitical reality and to establish cooperation with the countries of the Global South to maintain the ability to ensure peace and security.

Separately served criticized the modern role of the European Union. He stated that Europe’s time was already “passed.”

“We are talking about Europe as if it means something. But its time has passed. It has never received either a common foreign policy nor a defensive structure,” he added.

Nato -2025 Summit is the main newsIt should be reminded that on June 24-25, 2025, the NATO Summit will take place in the Hague (Netherlands) – for the first time in the history of the Alliance in this country. The event will be held at World Forum and collect about 45 heads of state, 6,000 delegates and more than 2,000 journalists. It is also the first summit under the chairmanship of the new Secretary General – Mark Rutte, former Prime Minister of the Netherlands.

The main topic will be to increase the defense costs of the Member States. A new goal is discussed – 5% of GDP by 2032, of which 3.5% should be directed directly to defense. This plan has caused differences: the Baltic countries support it, and Spain has expressed harsh rejection.

Important place at the summit will be the issue of support of Ukraine, restraint of Russia and adaptation to new challenges by China and hybrid threats. Also, the focus is the US position. Donald Trump stated that the United States is not obliged to fulfill allied obligations unless other countries spend enough defense.
