Details: Speaking with Critney Prime Minister, Rutte congratulated Canada’s decision to reach the target level of NATO’s defense expenses this year.

“The fact that you have decided to bring Canada’s expenses for NATO to 2% this year is truly fantastic,” he said.
He noted that, together with the recent statement of Portugal to reach 2% of GDP this year, all NATO members will reach this benchmark in 2025.
“It’s really great news,” said Secretary General.
The North Atlantic Alliance set a 2% GDP defense expenses in 2014 at a summit in Wales. Countries were expected to reach it for 10 years.
Recall:
- The Alliance Summit is expected that new minimum defense costs will be agreed – 3.5% of GDP directly for defense and another 1.5% of GDP for defense.
- According to the media, some of these costs will be directed to support Ukraine, which can significantly increase the defense capability of the Ukrainian defense forces.
