According to Interfax-Ukraine, the President stated this during a press conference with Germany Minister Boris Pistorius on June 12. He stressed that sanction policy is one of the main topics for Ukraine at the summit.
“With regard to the Seven, it is clear that we are very close to important sanctions.
The G7 Summit will take place from June 15 to June 17 in Canada. It will include representatives of G7 (USA, Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy) as well as the European Union and invited countries, including Ukraine.
At the same time, the final decision on US sanctions against the Russian Federation is in the White House, Zelensky stressed. He recalled that the US Congress is already promoting the bill, which will significantly increase the pressure on the aggressor country.
“As I said, this sanctional package is very important to us – Graham and Blumental, and you know that we have discussed the details, they came to us. They are very positive about it, and we are really grateful to them, but still the final decision is in the White House,” Zelensky added.
He stressed that it is important for Ukraine to “at least understand how close we are.” However, coordination with the EU countries is currently underway and a similar position for sanctions packages.
