Details: The committee meetings were held on Friday, June 6, in Birschtonas, Lithuania. They also drew attention to the fact that Ukraine’s membership in NATO will provide a solid basis for Euro -Atlantic security and noted that the full -scale war of Russia is a gross violation of international law, the UN Charter and the basic norms of human rights.

So the country’s statement listed five key obligations:

  • To support Ukraine before its full victory – in particular, the release of all temporarily occupied territories, punishment of military criminals and the implementation of the principles of international justice.
  • To promote Ukraine’s accession to the EU, in order to complete the negotiations by 2030 and to acquire full membership.
  • To support the Euro -Atlantic course of Ukraine, taking into account the decisions of NATO summits in Bucharest (2008), Vilnius (2023) and Washington (2024), as well as call for specific decisions at the NATO summit in Hague in 2025.
  • To develop defense cooperation with Ukraine, in particular to promote its accession to the United expeditionary forces (JEF) as a step to a deeper integration in the field of security.
  • To increase diplomatic pressure on Russia – isolation in international organizations, expanding sanctions and prosecuting for crimes against Ukraine.
  • Committees of three countries also called on other parliaments, international institutions and governments to support this statement and take appropriate steps towards the victory of Ukraine, its reconstruction and full integration into the Euro -Atlantic community.

It should be noted that at the end of June, the Hague will host a NATO summit. According to Eurocree, NATO leaders are preparing to make a decision to increase defense costs up to 5% of GDP – some of these costs will be directed to support Ukraine, which can significantly increase the defense capability of the Ukrainian defense forces.

It is expected that the new expense target will be divided: 3.5% of GDP – directly to military needs, another 1.5% – to wider security projects, including infrastructure.

Some NATO countries, such as Canada and Luxembourg, may use assistance to Ukraine as part of new obligations to increase defense costs up to 5% of GDP.
