German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will meet with US President Donald Trump in the White House on Thursday during his first visit to the US capital from the moment of office of chancellor a month ago.

According to Western media, German Chancellor should be ready for a conversation similar to that with the leaders of Ukraine and South Africa.

NYT notes that President Trump and his administration have demonstrated a special dislike for Germany among European countries that Trump views more as competitors than allies.

It is planned that Trump will accept the German leader at 11:30 in the morning (3:30 pm after Greenwich), after which there will be a bilateral meeting in the oval office and a working lunch.

Trump is trying to plant Ukraine and Russia at the negotiation table, but his diplomatic efforts have not been successful in the end of the war.

On May 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy came to an official visit to Berlin. At the press conference, Merz announced that Germany is funding the production of long -range missiles in Ukraine. The Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who was asked about it, called the German decision “further provocative of the war” and “obstruction of attempts to enter the trajectory of the peace process.”
