At the proposal of President of PACE Theodoros Ruspoulos will be launched “Victory for Victoria” Day (Victory for Victoria) – Day of Military Correspondents and Freedom of Journalism.
This day in PACE will be dedicated to the memory of Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roshchina, who was stolen, tortured and killed in Russian captivity. Its history, unfortunately, is not single. Every year, dozens of journalists die, capture or disappear during the coverage of the war against Ukraine. ”
Details: According to Kravchuk, the purpose of the initiative is to honor journalists who died or disappeared, covering the truth.
In particular, it is proposed to start an annual PACE resolution, a minute of silence during the autumn session in Strasbourg, as well as the appropriate Side Event during the session.
The People’s Deputy also reported that for the first time Victory for Victoria day will be celebrated this year at the autumn session of the PACE (September 29 October 3) during the vote of the resolution on Ukrainian journalists in captivity.

Prehistory:
- In order to get into the occupied territory for future material, Victoria Roshchyna left Ukraine to Poland on July 25, 2023. She planned to reach the occupied East of Ukraine through Russia in 3 days.
- Roshchyna disappeared on August 3, 2023 in the territory occupied by Russia, where she made a report.
- In May 2024, Russia for the first time acknowledged that she had detained Roshchina. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation sent a letter confirming her father, Vladimir Rochina.
- On October 10, the head of the press service of the coordination headquarters Petro Yatsenko reported in the Russian prison, a freelance author of “Ukrainian Truth” Victoria Roshchyna was killed in Russian prison. GUR noted that the journalist had to return to Ukraine as a result of the exchange.
- On October 11, the Attorney General’s office reported that criminal proceedings opened after the disappearance of Roshchina were doed as a military crime combined with premeditated murder.
- Investigators “Investigation.Info” found out that Rochina was cruelly tortured in Russian captivity: her body had knife wounds, she was beaten by a current, and the Russian colony staff hid her from inspections.
- The body, which, according to the examination, belongs to the victims of Russian journalist Victoria Roshchyna, has numerous traces of torture and traces of autopsy; It also lacks some internal organs.
