The Verkhovna Rada supported the first reading of the Bill No. 12406, which establishes criminal liability for violation or bypassing economic sanctions.

The document provides for amendments to the Criminal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code and the Law on Panctions. The bill criminalize a deliberate or negligent violation of sanctions, including financial ones.
Penalty is a fine of 425 thousand to UAH 2.04 million or imprisonment for a term of 2 to 10 years. An additional punishment will also be obligatory – a prohibition on professional activity up to 15 years, in some cases – confiscation of property.
To distinguish small violations, a cost threshold of 151.4 thousand UAH was established.
The law also provides for liability of legal entities – in the form of fines, confiscation of property or forced liquidation. Not only persons for whom sanctions are imposed, but also third parties who contribute to their bypass.
