The former head of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs Annalen Berb was elected President of the UN General Assembly – she became the fifth woman in this position in history and the first – from the European region.
According to the press service of the organization, 167 countries voted in favor of Berb.
The German diplomat will begin in September, when a new session of the General Assembly will open.
“Today we live in difficult times. We walk on a tight rope of uncertainty. But … We have already worked hard times. And it depends on us whether we will be able to accept these challenges, ” – said in our speech when admission to the post of Berbbok, which is quoted by DPA.
Berbok was German Foreign Minister in the Government of Olaf Sholtz from December 2021 to May 2025.
