Berbok was the only candidate for office. Nevertheless, the vote took place in a secret mode – at the insistence of one of the UN members. According to diplomatic circles, Russia was the initiator of the secret ballot.
Moscow did not hide its negative attitude to the candidate of Berbok, accusing her of “candid bias.”
As a foreign minister, Berbok has consistently criticized Russia for aggression against Ukraine and advocated a rigid course on the Kremlin, which has repeatedly caused indignation by the Russian authorities.
Recall:
- The nomination of the Berbok after the defeat of her party in the parliamentary elections in Germany caused some criticism in diplomatic circles.
- In her speech, after his election, she thanked the Berb for trust and promised to be a “honest mediator” for all UN Member States.
- Earlier, Berbok abandoned the leadership of the Green Parliamentary faction for personal reasons.
- Subsequently, it became known that her candidacy wanted to put forward the head of the UN General Assembly.
