The EU authorities discuss the possibility of disconnecting more than 20 Russian banks from the SWIFT system as part of a new package of sanctions against Russia. About it reports Bloomberg with reference to sources.

In addition, the EU can reduce the marginal price for Russian oil from $ 60 to $ 45 per barrel and impose a ban on the Nord Stream gas pipeline.

According to the agency, the European Commission consulted with EU Member States, but the decision-making terms have not yet been set. The introduction of new trade restrictions in the amount of about two and a half billion dollars is also being discussed to reduce Russia’s income and limit access to technology for weapons production.

SWIFT is the largest system of international banking payments. The US and the European Union began to disconnect Russian banks from it in February 2022. At the end of last year, according to the Russian side, about 200 banks had access to SWIFT.
