The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov, commenting on the first part of the large -scale exchange of prisoners, in which 390 Ukrainians returned from the Russian Federation, said that all bodies responsible for exchange acted as a single team. He added that the Ukrainian authorities will continue to work on returning all prisoners of defenders and civilians. The minister assured that Ukraine would return every citizen, and work on it does not stop.
- Earlier, President Zelensky confirmed that on Friday, May 23, Ukraine and Russia held the first part of the exchange of prisoners “1000 per 1000”, in which 390 Ukrainians returned home, including defenders and civilians.
- The Coordination Headquarters on the management of prisoners of war specified that 270 military and 120 civilians were returned home. The released soldiers defended the Ukrainian territory in Donetsk, Lugansk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Kherson directions, and also participated in battles in Chernihiv, Sumy and Kyiv regions.
