Volodymyr Zelensky, the head of state, confirmed that on Friday, May 23, Ukraine and Russia held the first part of the exchange of prisoners “1000 per 1000”, in which 390 Ukrainians returned home, including defenders and civilians. The president reported this on his social networks.
– We return our people home. The first part of an agreement on 1000 per 1000 exchange was implemented. This arrangement was reached at a meeting in Turkey and it is important to implement it fully. Today – 390 people. Saturday and Sunday – we expect the continuation of the exchange. Thank you to everyone who helps, who is 24/7 working for Ukrainians and Ukrainians to return home. It is very important to return everyone who is captured, ”Zelensky said.
The Head of State also informed that information about each person is currently continuing. Ukraine also actively continues diplomatic work to make such steps be possible.
The Coordination Headquarters on the management of prisoners of war specified that 270 military and 120 civilians were returned home. The released soldiers defended the Ukrainian territory in Donetsk, Lugansk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Kherson directions, and also participated in battles in Chernihiv, Sumy and Kyiv regions.
Three women and 387 men are released. After the exchange, they will undergo a physical examination, receive assistance in physical and psychological rehabilitation, all proper payments for all time in captivity and reintegrate into society.

- On May 16, Istanbul took place in three years, direct negotiations between Kiev and Moscow. Delegations of Ukraine and Russia have agreed to exchange prisoners during the negotiations. It is planned to return 1000 people on each side.
