“Completed exhumation work in the former village of Puzhniki is an event of extraordinary historical weight for all of us. They were conducted in very difficult conditions, an unstable situation in Ukraine, which for the third year is protected from Russian aggression. But for all of us it is a social, political, diplomatic, but also a psychological breakthrough, which is a result of a period of time.

“I believe that it will be crucial for the care of historical memory,” said the head of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

She noted that “this breakthrough would be impossible without the great devotion of many people.” She thanked all experts, archaeologists, anthropologists who carried out exhumation work in Ukraine.

“From the very beginning, we emphasized and emphasize that working in the Livings will be crucial for further agreements to carry out intelligence and exhumation works. Today I can say with full conviction that together we have developed standards and good practices that can serve as a model,” Vrublevskaya emphasized.

She reminded that “at this point 26 applications submitted by the subjects from the Polish side, and 3 – from the Ukrainian, are in the process of approval.”

“The work in the dusaders completed at this stage, we emphasize, showed that such a complex topic, at an extremely difficult time, can be realized in the face of understanding and trust. Trust that is between us, which will bear fruit in the future,” she said.

“At the level of the regional administrations of Ukraine we have 6 approval for the search and 1 for exhumation,” the minister added.

We will remind, on April 24 in the Ternopil region, in the territory of now a non -existent village of Puzhniki, the remains of Poles who died in 1945 began to exhize.

The issue of exhumation for years has been an apple of discord in relations between Ukraine and Poland. The Polish authorities, headed by Donald Tusk, stood on Kiev demanding to cancel the moratorium.

This moratorium was introduced in response to the mass destruction of Ukrainian monuments in Poland in 2015-2017 and due to the improper investigation of these crimes.

Warsaw even said that the resolution of historical disputes would be one of the prerequisites for Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
