According to the UNIAN correspondent, the Trade Representative of Ukraine and Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka told this during a speech at the conference “Trade War: The Art of Protection”.

“It should be understood that on June 6, the worst scenario is just a return to the free trade regime, which was before. It is quite good, because we did not have duties on industrial goods.

According to him, autonomous trading measures at one time significantly assisted Ukraine, especially with sensitive goods.

“They helped not only from the point of view of access to the market, but also from the point of view of transit. But it was relevant in 2022, when our ports did not work. Now, when the ports work, and all exports, and the one that goes towards third countries goes from our ports, so we do not have such a transit load. explained the trading.

He noted that last year the agreement was reached that since June 6 this year the action of autonomous trade measures for Ukraine will cease to operate, instead, the European Commission will revise with Ukraine under Article 29 of the Agreement on Deepened and Comprehensive Free Trade Area in order to increase the access of Ukrainian goods to the EU market.

“With autonomous and trading measures, everything happened as the European Commission and planned. A fairly clear position on the non-consolidation of autonomous and trading measures. Instead, with the 29th sex, so far, we have slowed down a little because of a number of external circumstances, but I hope that we will find this decision quickly.

The Ukrainian trading was assured that every effort would be made so that at least 6 June there were no actual changes, even if there will be legal changes.

“At least at the time we negotiate on the new parameters of bidding liberalizations that have not been fully liberalized, we will not have some time, any problems with access to the European Union market. Although, obviously, the situation is far as optimistic and not as friendly as other directions.”

Trade visa waiver is the latest newsThe European Union does not plan to introduce new trade preferences for Ukraine immediately after the end of the “trade visa waiver” on June 5, 2025.

On May 16, Prime Minister Denis Shmigal announced that the Ukrainian government was actively negotiating with the European Commission on the implementation of a transition period of visa-free trade after the commercial preferences for Ukraine expands on June 5.

Recall that “trade visa waiver” between Ukraine and the EU began operating on June 4, 2022 as one way of supporting the Ukrainian economy during the war. It provided for temporary cancellation of duties and quotas for Ukrainian exports to the EU. On May 25, 2023, the EU Council continued this decision for a year, May 13, 2024 – another year, until June 5, 2025.
