In March 2022, the Russian military detained it in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, namely in the city of Berdyansk, but then released.
In the summer of 2022, Roshchina tried to get into the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine for the second time to write material. According to her father, on July 27, Victoria left Ukraine to Poland and had to reach the occupied territories in eastern Ukraine (through Russia). When the relatives talked to her on August 3, the journalist reported that she had been checking on the border for several days, but did not say where she was. On the same day, she disappeared.
In May 2024, Russia acknowledged that she had detained Roshchina. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation sent a letter confirming her father, Vladimir Rochina.
On October 10, 2024, the Coordination Headquarters reported that Victoria Roshchyna was killed in Russian prison.
GUR Yusov’s representative Andriy Yusov informed that Victoria was on exchange lists and had to return home in the near future. On October 11, the Attorney General’s office reported that in connection with the information about the death of a journalist in the Russian Federation, criminal proceedings opened after its disappearance were dominated. Now it is a military crime combined with premeditated murder.
Investigators “Investigation.Info” found out that Rochina was cruelly tortured in Russian captivity: her body had knife wounds, she was beaten by a current, and the Russian colony staff hid her from inspections.
