Details: The diplomats of the EU states with which “Europe” stressed that the absence of veto vetos by Hungary will approve the 17th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation very quickly, in May 2025.

“At a Coreper meeting (EU Permanent Representatives Committee), on April 6, the European Commission presented a project of the 17th Package of Sanctions against Russia. The discussion was quite favorable. It seems that Hungary does not deny the adoption of this package,”-said the correspondent of “European Truth” by the EU’s diplomat.
The diplomat explained the reason that Hungary is not opposed, by the fact that the 17th package “concerns predominantly sanctions on legal entities that are not problematic for them.”
The fact that Hungary did not oppose the 17th package against the Russian Federation at the Coreper meeting on May 6, the “European Truth” was reported by two other EU diplomats.
“Unfortunately, the today’s position of Hungary does not indicate that they will also do the continuation of sanctions in July – it will be a completely different story,” – said the first interlocutor of “Eurocree”.
“Now all EU member states analyze the 17th package of sanctions in more detail, but I do not think that there may be some serious difficulties in its adoption. It can be approved fairly quickly, because it inherently is quite consensus and does not contain any truly controversial positions,” he said.
