Details: The Minister reported that next week the Polish authorities would probably ask the European Commission to provide an exception to restrictions on government borrowing for EU countries so that Poland could maintain high defense spending.

In March, the European Commission proposed to allow Member States to increase their defensive expenditures by 1.5% of GDP for four years without sanctions, even if it causes an exceeding of 3% of GDP deficiency.
“We are actively considering the opportunity to request an exception,” Domanski said, adding that the final decision will be made by the end of the month, that is, in the coming days.
In addition to Poland, Portugal expressed interest in such an appeal, while Italy, France and Spain are treated with caution.
