“In Washington, the United States of America, a meeting of Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmigal with US Finance Minister Scott Bessent took place. This was reported by the head of the Ukrainian government. Shmigal added that the issues of financial assistance for next year were discussed separately.
“The Government of Ukraine, no doubt, supports the conclusion of the Economic Partnership Agreement between the US and Ukrainian peoples and the creation of an investment fund of reconstruction. Our negotiation teams continue active work, as provided by the signed memorandum. The negotiation groups report on progress by April 26,”
Recall that the creation of an investment fund of reconstruction is the Ukrainian condition of the subsoil agreement – it is the fund that must manage the processes of joint mining in Ukraine.
“The important political moments of the future document have been discussed. He stressed that the agreement, in accordance with the Ukrainian legislation, should be ratified in the Verkhovna Rada,” Smigal said.
According to it, negotiations took place in a “constructive tone”, so it makes sense to count on “further fruitful dialogue for the welfare of the Ukrainian and American peoples.”
Unfortunately, the Prime Minister said nothing about the creation of a free trade area between Ukraine and the United States except that the parties “agreed to start the relevant work.”
Also Ukrainian and American delegations discussed the strengthening of sanctions against the energy sector of the Russian Federation “in connection with the occupation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP”.
Denis Shmigal thanked the American people for the support of Ukraine and expressed gratitude to the US President Donald Trump separately – “for signing the decree he continued sanctions against Russia for another year.”
