Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmigal and US Finance Minister Scott Bessent agreed on the start of work on creating a free trade area between countries.
This was discussed during their meeting in Washington on April 23, the Cabinet of Ministers press service reports.
“We appreciate the constructive tone of negotiations between our technical teams and we count on further fruitful dialogue for the welfare of the Ukrainian and American peoples,” Schmigal said.
In addition, the parties discussed the issues of economic partnership, financial support of Ukraine for 2026, as well as the prospect of establishing an investment fund of reconstruction.
The Prime Minister stressed that the negotiation groups of both countries are already working on the relevant arrangements in accordance with the previously signed memorandum. The first results of this work should be presented by April 26.
Earlier, we wrote that the Ukrainian government, together with the European Commission, was actively working to prevent the return to trade conditions that operated until 2022 and to avoid potential reduction in exports to the European Union.
