According to a high-ranking official Trump administration, who spoke on a private diplomatic meeting on a certain stage of negotiations in Rome, a special envoy of President Donald Trump Steve Vitcoff and Foreign Minister Iran Abbas Arabchi had a conversation.

He added that the parties “made very good progress in our direct and indirect negotiations.”

This was confirmed by Foreign Minister Iran Abbas Aragchi, who wrote on the social network X that the parties had made “progress on the principles and goals of a possible agreement.” At the same time, he noted that “optimism can be justified, but only with great care.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman has informed that the parties have agreed to continue the negotiations in order to conclude an agreement that would provide Iran “complete freedom from nuclear weapons and sanctions, as well as retain its ability to develop peaceful nuclear energy.”

Before the negotiations on Iran Vitcoff, he met in Rome with the General Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) by Raphael Mariana Grossi.

Literally: “The UN Agency for Nuclear Program Supervision will probably play a key role in checking Iran’s compliance with the agreement, as it was in the case of the 2015 agreement, which Iran concluded with the world leaders.”

Prehistory:

  • On April 19, in Rome, Italy, Foreign Minister Iran Abbas Arakchi and US President Donald Trump’s specialist in the Middle East, Steve Witcoff held negotiations indirectly through an Oman official who reported a message between two sides.
  • On April 18, Iran told the United States that he was ready to accept some restrictions on Uranus enrichment, but requires reliable guarantees that US President Donald Trump would not decide to break the potential “nuclear agreement” for the second time.
  • On the eve of the second round of negotiations, Minister of Foreign Affairs Iran stated that Tehran’s right to enrich uranium is not subject to discussion.
  • On April 12, US President’s representative Steve Witcoff and Foreign Minister Iran Abbas Arakchi held negotiations in Oman, which both sides described as positive and constructive.
