At the request to clarify how Moldova could be used against Ukraine, Sandu replied that Moscow was making great efforts to influence the outcome of the elections in Moldova.
“We have seen this unprecedented intervention last year, and it is quite obvious that this year it will try to influence the election outcome. The Kremlin rate is to change the country’s leadership to the people he can control. And it is not only about Moldova, because Russia’s interest is now Ukraine.
According to her, there is a risk that the Russian Federation will try to draw Moldova into the war.
“We have 1200 kilometers of border with Ukraine. Imagine that in one night this border is transformed into a border with a country controlled by Moscow. Of course, there are risks here for Ukraine, but at the same time the risks are increasing for Moldova,” Sandu added.
She emphasized that for the sake of citizens’ safety, as well as in order not to complicate the situation in Ukraine, this should not happen.
“We have a moral duty to stay on the right side, to remain a friendly country,” Sandu summed up.
It is worth noting that the parliamentary elections in Moldova can take place on September 28.
Sandu warned that the possible pro -Russian majority in the future legislative body would be serious risks to the country’s European integration plans.
