They managed to find out that it is an ancient musical instrument, writes Fox News.

These plates date back to the third millennium BC. In their study, scientists noted that they found them during excavations of the ancient building in 2018.

Researchers have shared that the plates are identical in size. Moreover, none of them has surface damage. Scientists have suggested that they were stored carefully.

“Both plates are round, with an outer diameter of 138 mm and a relief medium (17 mm deep and 76 mm in diameter), which is perforated with a hole with a diameter of 4.2 mm,” the study reads.

For thousands of years, these plates have been degraded. In particular, due to the oxidation of copper, their surface is green.

Scientists have said that general knowledge of ancient musical instruments is complicated due to poor preservation of perishable materials and the relative rarity of such samples. The only preserved ancient musical instruments are usually made of metal or bone, but these plates are an exception.

“Copper alloy plates are among the relatively rare musical instruments found in the contexts of the Bronze Age in the Middle East. These percussion instruments occur in the third millennium BC in Mesopotamia and the Hindu Valley, and the Levantian Development.

Scientists have suggested that plates were used in rituals, for example, during the construction of temples. However, it is too early to draw conclusions.

In conversation with journalists, archaeologists said they plan to continue studying artifacts to determine how they were used in social contexts.

Other interesting findings of archaeologistsEarlier in Egypt found the ancient ghost city of Tutankhamon. According to scientists, the settlement is quite large -scale, perhaps it was used by the ancient military.

In addition, archaeologists found a mass burial of soldiers of the Roman era under the football field in the Austrian capital. Many were injured on the bones, caught by such weapons as spears, dagger and swords.
