The Southern District Military Court in the Russian Rostov-on-Don condemned the captive Ukrainian serviceman Vladislav Gurin to 12 years in prison for an article on participation in “Activity of a Terrorist Organization”. He was called to the Armed Forces on mobilization in May 2024, says Radio Svoboda Project.

According to the decision of the Russian court, his guilt is that a month after the conscription Gurin, “knowing the terrorist nature of the activity”, voluntarily transferred to one of the so -called “nationalist battalions”, the FSB press service in the Rostov region reported.

According to the Ukrainian volunteer organization “Mothers Shield”, Vladislav Gurin served in the 5th separate assault brigade. In 2023, this brigade included the Aidar Battalion, which the Russian Federation considers a “terrorist organization”. In August 2024 Gurin was captured.

International law directly prohibits the persecution of people for military formation, repeatedly emphasized the human rights activists of the Memorial in recognition of prisoners of war in political prisoners in similar cases.

Earlier, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced 25-year-old Ukrainian Alexei Chernysh to 18 years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony with the first three years in prison-he served in the Aidar battalion at a time when he was not considered a “terrorist community in Russia.

In Russia, dozens of sentences were announced by Ukrainian prisoners who served in the Azov regiment, also recognized in the Russian Federation by a “terrorist organization”.
