After the de -occupation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP will take up to two years to restore its work.
This was stated by the head of JSC NAEK Energoatom “Petro Kotin.
“Restarting the occupied Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant under the control of Russia will be dangerous. And Ukraine will take up to two years in peacetime in the event of restoring control over the station, ”he said.
According to him, there are serious problems that need to be resolved before the restoration of safe production of electricity at the NPP: insufficient amount of cooling water, personnel and input power supply.
Kotin also commented on US President Donald Trump’s statement, in which he expressed his interest in taking this object under his control. The head of Energoatom stressed that the operator is ready to restart the station, but first it should be left by Russian troops, then there will be necessary to mine and demilitarize the site.
Kotin noted that six reactors can only be put into operation after the completion of 27 safety programs agreed with the Ukrainian nuclear regulator, including nuclear fuel test programs in the reactor’s active area.
The power of the station remains in question. There are only two lines that support the work in the cold state: the 750 kV line from Ukraine, as well as a 330 kV backup line.
Experts say that the facility needs to build a pumping station, since cooling water is not enough. In June 2023, the Russian military destroyed the Kakhovski hydroelectric power station below the stream, which led to the cessation of unimpeded supply of the necessary water from the Dnieper, Kotin recalled.
Earlier, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Raphael Grossi said that the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP remains unstable.
After the termination of hostilities, the Zaporizhzhia NPP can gradually return to work. Experts predict a complex start -up process, but it is possible.
