DetailsOn Thursday, April 3, the Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Serhiy Marchenko, and the Minister of Finance of Denmark, Nicolai Wammen, met in Kyiv. The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Ukraine, Ole Egberg Mikkelsen, and the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Denmark, Andriy Yanevskyi.
The Ministry reported that the ministers discussed the current economic situation in Ukraine, the need for budget assistance for 2025-2026, and Ukraine’s approximation to EU membership.
The EU remains the largest donor of budget support to Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, we have attracted about EUR 49.5 billion from European partners. I am grateful to the Government of Denmark for its continued assistance and advocacy for Ukraine’s interests in EU institutions, in particular, for supporting the launch of the Ukraine Facility financial instrument and the use of revenues from frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine. Denmark also systematically provides critical military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
It is noted that EUR 30.6 billion of financial assistance from the European Union is foreseen for 2025, of which EUR 7.5 billion has already been allocated to the State Budget of Ukraine.
During the discussion of Ukraine’s integration into the EU, the parties discussed Ukraine’s accession to the EU Multiannual Financial Framework (Multiannual Financial Framework) for 2028-2034 and the EU Structural Funds.
Ukraine’s integration into the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework will create new, long-term financial support mechanisms, provide investment in critical infrastructure, and introduce a system of own resources in Ukraine, which is the basis for contributions from member states to the EU budget.
Serhiy Marchenko confirmed Ukraine’s unwavering reform course. Of the 151 conditions of the Plan of Ukraine for the EU Ukraine Facility instrument for 2024-2027, Ukraine has already fulfilled 36. The implementation of these measures lays the foundation for further economic recovery and development, integration into the EU, as well as attracting funding for the needs of the state budget and stimulating investment.
The Minister of Finance of Ukraine also thanked the Government of Denmark for introducing the “Danish model”, which aims to support the military-industrial complex and the economy of Ukraine. This mechanism allows directing funds from partner states to the production of Ukrainian weapons to meet the priority needs of the Ukrainian army.
In turn, the Minister of Finance of Denmark, Nicolai Wammen, assured that Denmark remains on the side of Ukraine from the first day of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and will maintain this support.
