The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has announced its intention to expand the program of free meals in schools, including students of 5 and 6th grade students.
This initiative aims to provide more children with healthy and healthy foods in schools.
According to the plans, in September 2026 the program will cover middle -class students in all regions of the country.
At the same time, since September this year, free meals will be available for students in 5-11 classes in frontline and border areas. In the future, the Ministry of Education and Science seeks to extend this practice to all schools of Ukraine.
“One of the goals of the ministry is to create a safe educational environment in educational institutions. Due to the gradual expansion of the program, even more Ukrainian students will be able to get healthy and healthy food in educational institutions for free, ”said Deputy Minister of Education and Science Andriy Stashkiv.
The free food program for elementary students was introduced in October last year. Before that, only children from preferential categories were provided with hot lunches, and funding was carried out at the expense of local budgets.
The expansion of the program was made possible by the support of the European Union, which has allocated tens of millions of euros to provide food for Ukrainian students.
We will remind, from 2027 in Ukraine a new school reform will work. According to the MES plans, high school students will be able to choose the subjects that they study, and most of the disciplines will be optional – they will be reduced, optimized and united.
It was also reported earlier that by May 2025, elementary school students will be eaten free of charge in schools. Ukraine is not enough money to provide free food for grades 1-11.
