Vitold Fokin headed the Government of Ukraine in 1990-1992.
He began his career in the coal industry, working in the Donetsk region. Subsequently, he held leadership positions in the Council of Ministers of the USSR, and in October 1990 he became the chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR. After Ukraine’s declaration of independence in August 1991, he headed the first government of independent Ukraine.
In 2020, Fokin returned to the information space as a participant in the Ukrainian delegation in a tripartite contact group to settle the conflict in the Donbass. His statements were caused by public resonance.
Vitold Fokin was one of the key political figures of Ukraine in the early 1990s.
