The plot of the series is based on the novel of the same name by the Australian writer Richard Flenagan, for which he received the 2014 Booker Prize.
The events occur during the Second World War in the Pacific, and in the center of the plot – British and Australian prisoners of war, engaged in the construction of the Burmese railway. The plot of the series tells about the cruelty of war, the weakness of life and the inability of love seen by the eyes of the Australian doctor and a prisoner of war.
In addition to Elordi, Odesa Young (“Shirley”, “Cursed”), Karan Heinds (“Lie on the bottom in Bruges”, series “Game of Thrones”), Olivia Deion (“Elvis”), Simon Baker (“Mentalist”) and others are also involved in the series.
The project was directed by Australian Justin Kurzel, who previously made Macbeth (2015), Killer Credo (2016) and True Kelly’s True Story (2019).
The mini-series will consist of five episodes. They will all be released at the same time on April 18, 2025 at Prime Video.
