Details: The publication writes that the Baltic States and Northern Europe have called on Brussels to provide “specific proposals on how to decisively promote Ukraine’s accession to the EU.” This happens at a time when European countries are trying to strengthen Ukraine’s support against the backdrop of a deepening of the break with President Donald Trump and its administration.

“Confirming the complete and unambiguous commitment of Ukraine’s membership in the EU, we urge the entry process,” the message reads.
“It’s time for ambitious and effective decisions in this direction,” the signatories say.
Although the President of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen has publicly assumed that Ukraine can join the EU by 2030, the signatories now want to take steps to make it really happen.
“Ukraine has demonstrated significant progress in reforms – now it’s time to mobilize efforts to help Ukraine to make it,” the letter reads.
The country was forced to achieve large -scale political, economic and strategic goals, while fighting for the protection of its territory, critically important infrastructure and civilian population from Russian attacks.
At the same time, the expansion process must be “predicted and based on preferences”, and “bilateral issues that contradict the overall strategic interests of the Union, should not be used to block progress, but should be resolved through bona fide dialogue.”
Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orban consistently opposed Ukraine’s admission to the EU, and his diplomats in Brussels constantly expressed objections during negotiations, called upon to strengthen Kyiv’s institutions and ensure economic and political rapprochement.
Prehistory:
- Earlier this month, a populist Hungarian leader announced an optional nationwide survey on Ukraine’s accession to the EU. In a list of 12 requirements for Brussels, published last week, he stated that the EU should be a “union but without Ukraine”.
- This year, the European Commission announced ambitious plans for the opening of three clusters of Ukraine with the EU before the end of the Polish presidency in June 2025.
- But in mid -February it became known that Hungary blocked the opening of the first negotiation cluster and demands to expand the list of requirements for Ukraine.
